President and Chief Executive Officer
Adobe Systems Incorporated
Shantanu Narayen is president and chief executive officer of Adobe, one of the world's largest and most diversified software companies. Narayen led the successful transformation of Adobe’s core business from traditional desktop software to market-leading cloud offerings. Under his leadership, Adobe has pivoted its highly successful creative software business to a highly successful Cloud-based subscription service. Importantly, Narayen foresaw the inextricable link between content development, delivery, measurement and optimization and led the company into a new category, digital marketing, when it purchased Omniture in 2009. Through a relentless focus on product innovation and market expansion, Narayen has taken a company primarily known for the art of creative software to a world leader in the science of big data.
Prior to his appointment as CEO in December of 2007, Narayen was Adobe's president and COO, responsible for the company's day-to-day global operations, product research and development, marketing and corporate development. Previously, he held key product research and development positions within Adobe, including executive vice president of worldwide products, senior vice president of worldwide product development and vice president and general manager of the engineering technology group.
Before joining Adobe in 1998, Narayen co-founded Pictra, Inc., an early pioneer of digital photo sharing over the Internet. Prior to that, he served as director of desktop and collaboration products at Silicon Graphics, Inc. and held various senior management positions at Apple Computer, Inc.
Narayen is a member of the U.S. President's Management Advisory Board, established in 2010 to advise on how to implement best business practices and apply technology in federal government management and operation. He also serves on the Board of Pfizer, Inc. and the U.S.-India Business Council. He is president of the board of the Adobe Foundation, which funds philanthropic initiatives around the world. He formerly served on the Board of Dell, Inc. and Metavante Technologies, Inc. as well as the Advisory Board of the Haas School of Business, University of California at Berkeley.
Narayen holds a bachelor's degree in electronics engineering from Osmania University in India, a master's degree in computer science from Bowling Green State University and a master's degree in business administration from the Haas School of Business. He holds five patents.
