Split PDFs into multiple separate files on a Chromebook
Take a large PDF file and split it into multiple, smaller files to make it easier to share or store. Effortlessly split and merge PDFs on your Chromebook.
Maybe you’ve written a book and want to send out updated chapters to reviewers. Or you simply have a file that is too large to send, or you only need to send certain sections for a specific project. Split your single PDF document into smaller files to make it easier for everyone. You can send out only what you need to and make sharing a breeze — even from a Chromebook.
How to split PDF files on Chromebook devices
Navigate to the Split PDF page on Acrobat online, and then follow these steps:
- Click the Select A File button or drag and drop your file into the drop zone.
- Sign in to Acrobat — or a Google or Apple account — to continue with your file.
- After your file uploads, you will see thumbnails of the pages within the original file.
- Hover over the dashed lines between the pages and click with the Scissors tool to split your PDF into multiple new files.
When you have separated your files, click Continue. You can choose to save your files in the same folder you uploaded from or create a new folder for them.

Open your PDF in Acrobat and follow these steps:
- Choose the Organize Pages icon on the right and then the Split icon on the top.
- A secondary toolbar will open. Choose to split by “Number of pages” from the dropdown menu and then choose to split by one page.
- Use Output Options from the same secondary toolbar to decide how and where to save your new PDFs.
- Select OK and Split, and save your PDF.
Now that your PDFs are split, you can use Adobe Acrobat to continue to edit your PDFs. You can also use the “Number of pages” split to divide your PDF at intervals of as many pages as you want.
