The RAL and British Standards color lists provided the first formal definitions of the color ruby. The RAL color list published ruby color in 1927, and the British Standard color list in 1930. These standards of the color ruby have since been used to define consumer goods, dyes, and pigments, as well as ruby stones themselves.
