Skip the reshoot and generate the shot you're missing

Describe the B-roll you need and generate a clip that matches your footage, right in the timeline.

Introduction and meet Sarah John

[Sarah John]: Have you ever been working on an edit after a long few days of shooting on location, finally pulling everything together only to realize there was a shot you forgot to grab before you left?

A shot of necessary B-roll for example or a transition between two otherwise perfect takes?

Well, Premiere's Generative Media Tool is designed for precisely those scenarios.

I'm Sarah John and as a fellow video creator I'm going to show you how to use Premiere's assistive artificial intelligence features to streamline and simplify the work you're already doing.

Blend a new transition between two clips you already have

To get started, make sure you've got your existing edit open on your timeline complete with all the clips you've already recorded.

In this example I've got this clip here of our gorgeous main character and another great clip of her here approaching the camera.

These are our best two takes and I really want to use them but I don't have a great option for a transition between the two.

What I'm going to do is see if I can't fix this with the Generative Media Tool.

This tool is located here in the Tools Panel.

After selecting it, I'm going to go over to the timeline and click and drag between the two clips.

Once the taskbar pops up I have several options.

The first section is where I'm going to fill in the text prompt of what I'm looking for.

The prompt for this will describe the cat getting up and moving towards the camera.

We can see here how many of our AI credits this will cost.

In this case, it'll be 200.

We can check our credit balance at any time by clicking on our profile drop down.

Then equally as important as the prompt in this case, I'm going to make sure the clip it generates will start and end with the last frame of the preceding clip and the first frame of the next one.

To do this, I'm going to choose the first frame button and then using the Eyedropper Tool click on the video with the playhead on the frame that I want.

Then I'm going to do the same with the last frame button.

The rest of the information here is automatically filled in based on my sequence settings.

I can adjust the length here if necessary, to make sure it fills the entire blank section, and if I want to use a different AI model, I can make that selection here in this drop down.

When everything looks good, I'm going to select Generate.

After a few moments I'll have a transitional clip that seamlessly ties the original two clips together.

Generate B-roll missing for footage

Now, if I have a blank section that I need to fill with a B-roll clip, I can use the taskbar in the same way.

In this case, I'm not going to fill in the first and last frame sections with existing footage.

Instead, I'm going to give it a brand new prompt based on what I'd like it to look like.

Say, on the day of the shoot we got a really great clip of some cat POV B-roll as if she were walking across the field but the file got corrupted somehow and is now unusable.

So here in the prompt section to recreate the shot as close as possible, I'm going to describe how green and sunny the farm is and include that I want the shot to come from a low angle.

When it's finished, I can preview the clip and make any adjustments until it fits what I have in mind.

Now that you know how to use the Generative Media Tool you have the option to save yourself and your team the headache and cost of reshoots just for a quick clip here and there.
