How to use Generative Fill in Photoshop.

1

Use any selection tool to select an object or area in your image. Select the Generative Fill button in the Contextual Task Bar that appears.

2

Write a prompt describing the object or scene you want to generate in the text-entry prompt box. Or leave it blank and Photoshop will fill in the selection based on the surroundings. To further customise your results in the Photoshop (beta) app, click Reference Image and upload an example image that resembles your desired outcome, like a jean jacket. Use just the image or combine it with a prompt to tailor your result even more.

3

Click Generate. You’ll see thumbnail previews of variations generated based on your prompt and a Generative Layer will be created in your Layers panel for non destructive editing of your original image. To see variations of your favourite result in the Photoshop (beta) app, select it and then click Generate Similar to see new versions of that image.

Tip: To generate even more options, click Generate again. You can also try editing your prompt to fine-tune your results.

Create stunning, lifelike images with a new level of quality, precision, and control with the most advanced Generative Fill yet.

Turn nothing into something faster than ever.

High-quality creations, low time commitment.

Save hours of time bringing photorealistic or surrealistic ideas to life. Generative Fill adds and creates with appropriate shadows, reflections, lighting and perspective to give you stunning results that need much less editing.

Refine, retouch, rework.

Add yellow lines to pavement or a wistful mist to an image with a text prompt and then make adjustments. Generated content is added on a new layer so you can edit, refine or remove any creation without damaging the original image.

Cut out unwanted elements with ease.

Remove stray shadows from a photo or trim an extra tree from a generated AI image quickly. Simply select what you want to cut and Generative Fill will replace it with content that makes sense for the image — from a longer bookshelf to a blue sky.
