How to create and edit a TIFF file.
Because they’re among the most common file formats around, TIFFs are relatively easy to create. Simply follow the three steps below:
- Go to File > Save As.
- Choose File Format from the dropdown menu.
- Choose TIFF.
You can reduce the file of a Tiff file by applying a compression, either lossless (bigger file, no damage to the image), such as LZW, or using JPEG which is generally smaller In size but compresses the image by simplifying its content, which damages the integrity of the image.
You can maintain a multi layered file while compressing as Jpeg, as it only affects the pixel content of each layer.
You may need to import your images into Microsoft Paint for Windows devices to save as a TIFF. Alternatively, programs like Adobe Photoshop have a built-in capacity to save files as .tiff.
Tiff files can contain tags that retain some extra information that some software can read: such as authoring, copyrights and other useful information. In addition you can tag your Tiff files with the content authenticity initiative to check the provenance of a file, and see (among other things) in which way it has been altered and if the image is safe to use.

A TIFF is an image file — so it stores photographic and graphical data. You won’t be able to edit the original file information without editing software, like Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
