Score a short video with Firefly Generate Music
Set mood, genre, and energy tags to create commercially safe tracks you can preview and download.

Adobe Firefly can help.
Hi, I'm Kevin Stohlmeyer.
I'm an Adobe ambassador with over 35 years experience in the field.
And in the next few minutes, I'll show you how to use Adobe Firefly Generate music to add a custom soundtrack to your own videos.

First, we'll need to upload our own video source.
Adobe Firefly works best with an MP4 format, but can also accept MOV files on the Mac.
To get to the audio settings, go to Audio, and Generate music.
This will bring up the interface for Generate music.
Upload your video and set a short test duration
Click the Upload video button and locate your video, and click Open.
This will load your video into Firefly.
Once uploaded, Firefly will automatically analyze your video for a starting prompt formula.
Be aware that Firefly will use 3 credits for every 10 seconds of audio, or 20 credits for every minute.
Now that my video is uploaded, you can see that at the bottom, this is going to take 43 credits, if I were to run this and hit Generate.
Instead, I'm going to scroll down to the bottom and change my Duration to 30 seconds. 30 seconds of audio will allow me to find the right formula for my video.
I can experiment with my tags without spending a lot of credits.
Once I find the right sound, I can extend my timing later.
Now that we have our video and timing set, let's take a look at the formula tags in Generate music [The generated prompt is shown as color-coded vibe, style, and purpose tags.] located at the top of the screen.
This is an automatic generation that's based off the analysis of my video.
I could click Generate and see what it came up with, but I'd like to adjust this based on my specific needs before I even start.
Customize vibe, style, and purpose tags
But understanding the tags will help you get started in the right direction.
Vibe, which is purple, defines the mood or emotion for the music.
From dramatic to playful, these set the tone.
The blue is Style, which is for the genre or the different instruments that you're going to use to generate the music.
Purpose is green, and this is for the intended use case for the music.
This can vary from a vlog to a tutorial to in this case, I'm going to use it for a travel YouTube channel.
I can customize this to whatever I want, or I can use these preset tags to start.

I'm going to remove the automatic tags that came from the analysis of the video.
As I go through, I'm going to add my own custom tags to make sure that this video conveys the style that I'm choosing.
To start with, I'm going to describe a vibe.
For this, it's a mountain bike riding through a trail at a pretty high rate of speed.
So I'm going to say that this is intense and playful.
The song Style, again, is either the genre or the instruments that I'm going to use in the music.
So I'm going to choose something hip-hop and maybe rock.
Finally, with Purpose, I'm going to tell it what is the context of this video - is this a vlog or a workout, or in this case, I'm going to say that it's a Travel Video.
Next, after I have my tags set, I'm going to go down and look at the next settings, which are Energy and Tempo.
Energy and Tempo control the intensity and speed of the music.
Low Energy is calming, while High intensity is lively.
This is similar to Tempo, where Slow is low-paced and calm, and Fast is quick and energetic.
I'm going to start with Medium, Medium just to see what it gives me, and I can change it as I go.
That's the benefit of doing only 30 seconds of video for 10 credits.
Now that I have my tags, my Energy, and my Tempo, I'll click Generate.

Once I have my results, you'll see I have four options down at the bottom.

Clicking on each track, and hitting Play, [music] will give me a style that I can test out and see how this works.
Each track will give me a different theme and a different sound to each of my songs. [music] All I have to do is sample and find the one that I like. [music] [music]
Preview, refine, and download your soundtrack
If it's not quite what I think I need for my soundtrack, [The prompt is revised, replacing rock with synthwave and changing Energy to High.]
I can very easily go back in and adjust my tags, and adjust my Energy or Tempo, and then click Generate again to get four more samples.
And just like before, I can click on each one and hit the Play button [music] to find the sound that fits my video.
Once I have the video set and I like the soundtrack that I'm hearing, I can go back to my timing, [Duration is changed to 2:10.] and I can adjust my timing to the full length of the video, and then click Generate.
And now that I have my full video, I can go back through and preview my soundtracks. [music] And when I'm ready to download, I have two options: I can download the entire soundtrack just with the audio or have it automatically combine the downloaded video with the soundtrack.
When doing this, I like to go down to the bottom and Mute my video.

Unless there's a voiceover or some other speaking going on during the video, I like to turn this off for the video itself.
If I'm only downloading the soundtrack, I can leave that as is.
One of the great features of using Adobe Firefly Generate music is everything that you generate using this feature is commercially safe, meaning you don't have to worry about DCMA violations or having any kind of copyright issues posting videos on social, YouTube, or other channels.
