What you’ll need

1

Sketch and fill.

Draw a freeform shape or object with the Pencil tool. Then switch the Fill and Stroke colors so the drawing is black with no stroke.

2

Mix colors in a snap.

Choose the Gradient tool from the toolbar and click the Freeform gradient preset from the Properties panel.

Pro tip: Freeform gradients are a custom combination of colors that blend seamlessly.

3

Pick more colors.

Click points on the flower where you’d like to add color stops and select new colors for each one. Drag a stop to move it around and see the effect it has on the color transitions.

4

Arrange and blend.

Use the Selection tool to assemble the parts of your logo. Click Opacity from the Properties panel and change the blending mode to Multiply to change the way the layers interact and darken the colors where objects overlap. Experiment with other blending modes to see the result.
