One popular feature of Adobe Prelude CC is to ingest and transcode camera footage.
This transcoding is done in the background by Adobe Media Encoder.
You can create user presets specifically for this task.
Let me show you how.
I'm here in a blank Prelude project and click on the "Ingest" button to open the Ingest dialog.
In this example, I need to create dailies with timecodes and LUT applied.
I'm setting up the transfer to go to the desired location and choose the H.264 format.
Currently there is no preset that applies timecodes and a LUT.
So, let's create one.
The easiest way is to select one short clip and choose a preset that comes close to what we need as a sample for Media Encoder to create a preset.
And then we come back here to apply it to the rushes.
Now I can click "Ingest".
This launches Adobe Media Encoder and places the sample clip in the queue.
This happens fast.
The clip is already rendering.
Now, we have a sample clip in the queue.
I right click on it and choose "Reset Status".
In this way, I can use it to make the preset.
Click on the preset name to open the Export Settings dialog.
On the right, there are various tabs that allow customization.
In the Effects tab, I check "Lumetri Look / LUT", and via "Select", browse to the LUT the client provided.
I don't need an Image Overlay, but I want the Name Overlay on the Bottom Left.
Let's adjust the Offset to put it even lower.
And I check the Timecode Overlay, placing it at the Bottom Center, adjusting the offset again.
In the other tabs, I don't need to change anything.
I could add publication credentials for Vimeo or YouTube, but for now, I'm happy with the settings and I click on the "Save Preset" button up here to save the preset.
I give it a name that will stand out when I'm in Prelude, and I make sure that "Save Effects Settings" is checked so the LUT and the timecode are stored in the preset.
If I had to edit a log in in the Publish section, I would need to check that option too, but for now this is good.
I click OK to save the preset and again to close the Export Settings dialog.
We can now remove the sample clip from the queue and go back to Prelude to apply the new preset to all rushes.
I use to check all option to select all clips.
Check "Transcode" and select our new preset.
When I now hit "Ingest", the queue fills up with the rushes and Adobe Media Encoder starts rendering.
