I'm Lisa Carney, Hollywood retouching pro and a mobile editing enthusiast.
And in the next few minutes, I'll show you how to use effects in Photoshop on mobile to turn regular photos into fun, artsy looks - cartoons, bold color shifts, even glitch effects, straight from your phone.
Plus, I'll share a cool pro tip that will take your creative effects to the next level.
Browse and apply filter effects
I'm starting with this cute photo of a dog.
When I tap on the Effects, look at all these cool effects I can apply.
Applying an effect is easy, just choose and then experiment with the controls to fine-tune the effect.
Pro tip: use your two fingers to push the image up, so you can see the whole image.
Now, let me show you how to really leverage a cool effect.
I'm going to tap X to get out of this effect, and go back to the main menu.
Duplicate the layer before applying effects
First thing I'm going to do is duplicate my layer.
The effects are permanent once you close the file, so I'll apply the effect to a copy layer.
There are a few different ways of duplicating a layer.
What I'd like to do is tap on the arrow above the Layers icon.
This way, I can see all my layers.
Tap on the three dots to the right of the layer name to reveal a menu of layer options.
Tap Duplicate to make a copy of the layer.
Use selections to apply effects to specific areas
I'd like to select just the blue background around the dog.
To do that, I'll tap Select area, and then tap the thumbnail for the Background.
I'll tap the Checkmark and Photoshop will create the selection.
Now I have the background selected, here's where the fun begins.
Tap on Effects and slide on over.
I'm going to tap on Halftone.
Because I have the background selected, this will apply the effects only to the background area.
What's really cool, in here I can change the options.
I can go to the Dots and change the look of the halftone to Lines, I can change the Size by sliding the slider to the right, and I can change the Level or Definition.
Isn't this fun?
If you want to get even more creative, I can tap the Checkmark, then go back to the main menu.
Fine-tune the effect with a layer mask and a blend mode
While I still have the selection active, I'll tap on Apply as mask.
If I tap on the Layers icon to reveal the detailed view of the layers, you can see that the effects layer now has a layer mask, which is only showing the halftone effect that was applied to the background.
And on the bottom of the screen, I can see more options.
I'm going to tap on Blend and opacity, then slide over and choose Multiply.
This will now make black lines on the blue background, which I think looks fantastic.
