Introduction
When working in Photoshop on the iPhone, you may come across distractions that you want to remove from your images.
Generative fill to the rescue.
I'm Howard Pinsky, and in this video, I'm going to show you how to quickly remove unwanted objects from your photos using Photoshop on iPhone.
On this photo, I'd love to clean it up a touch
Understanding Generative Fill for object removal
by removing a few of the distractions.
And I'm going to use Generative fill to remove the bag and the shoes.
Generative fill is a generative AI-powered feature that's built right into Photoshop on iPhone, which helps you remove objects as well as create new content for your images.
Removing content with Generative fill
Selecting unwanted objects with the Lasso tool
starts with making a selection of the objects you want to remove.
First, tap on Select area.
Then tap on the Lasso tool.
You can use any of the selection tools with Generative fill, but the simplest method is often to grab the Lasso tool, which is useful for making freehand selections.
To remove the bag on the right, I'll drag roughly around it with the Lasso being sure to include the shadows and some of the area surrounding the bag, including these extra bits in our selection will help Generative fill return a result we like.
Then to remove the shoes on the left, I'll make sure this Add to selection icon is highlighted, and I'll drag with the Lasso around the shoes as well.
Great.
Tapping on the Checkmark will create our selection and reveal a few options, including Generative fill.
Removing objects and reviewing Generative Fill variations
Now, when you want to remove an object using Generative fill, you can leave this prompt field blank and simply press Generate.
After a few moments, Photoshop will seamlessly remove our objects from the image and offer up three variations of results to choose from.
Tap each variation.
Choose the one you like best, then tap the Checkmark to confirm.
Managing non-destructive Generative Fill layers
Best of all, these edits are non-destructive.
You may notice within your layers stack, a Generative fill layer has been added, and if you swipe left on the layers stack to see a more detailed view, you can see options to view the Variations, Hide or Delete the layer, and much more.
Tapping on the Variations button will take you back to see your Generative fill variations, so you can choose a different one if you like.
And that's how you can quickly remove unwanted objects using Photoshop on iPhone.
I'll catch you all in the next one.
