Want to make your videos more accessible and engaging?
Adding captions not only helps viewers understand your content better, but also boosts your videos' reach.
I am Jay Espitia-Pierluissi, and I've been running a video production business for over five years, working with clients all around the world, as well as coaching other videographers on how to scale their business past $10,000 a month.
In this video, we'll guide you through transcribing your clips, applying captions, and customizing their appearance in Premiere Pro.
Let's make your videos inclusive and professional.
Transcribing clips with the Text panel
First, let's start by transcribing your clips.
Premiere Pro has a powerful built-in tool for this.
Go into the Text tab.
If you don't see it, find it under the Window menu and click Text.
Click on Transcribe sequence and choose the audio track you want to transcribe.
Premiere Pro will generate a transcription of your video.
Review and edit it for accuracy by clicking on any part of the text.
With this, you'll have a text version of your dialog ready for captions.
Creating captions from a transcription
Next, we'll add captions to your Timeline.
In the Text tab, click on Create captions... from the transcription.
Choose the format and style for your captions.
The default option is great for social media posts.
Click Create captions and Premiere Pro will add the caption track to your Timeline.
Your captions are now synced with your video, making it easy for viewers to follow along.
Finally, let's customize the appearance of your captions
Customizing caption style and appearance
using the Properties panel.
Select the caption track in the Timeline, go to the Properties panel, you can adjust the Font, Size and Color of your captions.
Experiment with different styles and find the best look for your video.
This allows you to ensure that your captions are not only readable, but also visually appealing.

Cookies are small text files stored by your web browser when you use websites. There are also other technologies that can be used for similar purposes like HTML5 Local Storage and local shared objects, web beacons, and embedded scripts. These technologies help us do things like remembering you and your preferences when you return to our sites, measure how you use the website, conduct market research, and gather information about the ads you see and interact with.
You can make choices in the menu below about what cookies and other technologies you want us to use on Adobe sites when you visit them from this browser. You can always change those choices later by clicking on the Cookie Preferences link at the bottom of the page.
If enabled:
We can improve your experience by tailoring the site and the content to things we think might be of interest
We can better keep track of your preferences — like what language you prefer to use
We will better understand your likely interests so we can provide you more relevant Adobe ads and content on non-Adobe websites and in non-Adobe apps
It will help us improve the performance of our website and those of our partners who use the Adobe Experience Cloud
If disabled:
We won’t be able to remember you from session to session so the experience may not be tailored to your interests
You’ll still have access to the content of the site but certain features that depend on cookies may not function
You’ll still see ads, they just may not be as relevant to you
