Choose important settings for your projects, and manage media in Adobe Premiere Rush.

Introduction
I'd like to show you some preferences you can set in Adobe Premiere Rush CC to improve performance while you work and help you control your media.
I'm currently using a Mac,
Opening preferences across devices
so I'll use the Rush CC menu at the upper left of the application to open Preferences.
On a PC you'd find it under the Edit menu.
On a mobile phone or a pad there's a gear icon in the upper left where you can access preferences.
This panel starts off with an important question.
Choosing where imported media is stored
Where do you want to store your media?
You can click the Choose... button to designate where media is saved on import.
Navigate to the location on your device where you want assets to be stored.
I'm currently allowing my media to be imported to the default location in my user home documents folder.
So, I know I can find those files there inside the Adobe Rush CC folder.
You can change this location, but you might want to note the default location where media you've already imported has been saved.
Setting audio input and output options
The dropdown menus in the center of the panel let you choose inputs and outputs for audio.
You might just be using the Built-in Input and Output, but if you have audio devices connected, they'll show up in this menu.
I like to check the box
Improving playback with background rendering
to Pre-render parts of the sequence in the background while I'm working.
Which improves playback on less powerful systems.
If you experience any problems during playback just open Preferences and change this option.
When you're working in Rush CC,
Managing cache files for better performance
some video frames are cached to optimize clip playback.
Cache files are just images that are stored temporarily for faster previewing.
Clearing the cache files from time to time will free up some space on your device and improve your playback performance.
Because the Preferences panel in Rush CC allows you to control where your media is saved when it's imported and allows you to choose audio input and output settings.
It's important to take a look and make sure these settings work for you.
Adjust preferences to suit your needs and make sure to occasionally clear cache files to keep the application running smoothly.
What you learned: How to control where imported media is saved, choose audio input and output settings, and optimize system playback performance
Open Preferences
Choose Preferences from the Rush application menu (macOS) or the Edit menu (Windows).
On a mobile device, set preferences using the gear icon.
Choose Media Import location
Click the Choose button to set the location to store imported media files.
Set audio options
Menus in the center of the panel let you choose audio input and output options. If you don’t hear audio while playing clips or your sequence, check these settings.
Video rendering and playback
Pre-rendering parts of the sequence in the background while working can improve playback on less powerful systems. If you experience problems during playback, open Preferences and check the Pre-render Sequences For Playback box.
Optimize performance
While you work in Rush, some video frames are cached to improve clip playback. Clearing excess cache files can free up space on your device and improve playback performance.
Tip: Before changing where imported media is stored, note the default location where media you already imported has been saved.

Cookies are small text files stored by your web browser when you use websites. There are also other technologies that can be used for similar purposes like HTML5 Local Storage and local shared objects, web beacons, and embedded scripts. These technologies help us do things like remembering you and your preferences when you return to our sites, measure how you use the website, conduct market research, and gather information about the ads you see and interact with.
You can make choices in the menu below about what cookies and other technologies you want us to use on Adobe sites when you visit them from this browser. You can always change those choices later by clicking on the Cookie Preferences link at the bottom of the page.
If enabled:
We can improve your experience by tailoring the site and the content to things we think might be of interest
We can better keep track of your preferences — like what language you prefer to use
We will better understand your likely interests so we can provide you more relevant Adobe ads and content on non-Adobe websites and in non-Adobe apps
It will help us improve the performance of our website and those of our partners who use the Adobe Experience Cloud
If disabled:
We won’t be able to remember you from session to session so the experience may not be tailored to your interests
You’ll still have access to the content of the site but certain features that depend on cookies may not function
You’ll still see ads, they just may not be as relevant to you
