In this video, we'll experiment with editing photos in Lightroom.
I'll make some basic edits to this photo, quickly taking it from this to this.
We'll explore presets that allow you to easily achieve creative looks like these.
And I'll talk about how you can undo your work if you change your mind.
I'm here in the Develop module.
The Develop module in Lightroom is where you make color, tone, sharpening, and other fixes to your photo.
With this photo, I'll start out in the basic panel.
The overall photo's too dark, so I'll increase the exposure.
I'll darken the highlights with the highlight slider.
And I'll brighten the shadows.
I'll add some clarity, which makes everything look more 3-dimensional.
Finally, to intensify color, I'll increase saturation.
To see how far we've come with just a few basic sliders, I'll click on the Y|Y button so that we can see before and after side-by-side.
Hopefully you're starting to see why I love Lightroom so much.
I'll click back on this first icon to get out of before-and-after mode.
Let's experiment now with some of the presets that come with Lightroom.
Presets are combinations of slider settings, like the ones we just made.
Think of them as adjustment recipes that you can apply with one click.
As I hover over a few presets, in the Navigator panel you can see their effects previewed.
To apply one to your photo, click on it.
This can be your final look, or you can come back over to the right and work from this point.
This one could use a little bit of light in the shadows.
Let's try rounded corners on this one as well.
I've changed my mind on these corners, so I'll undo this last step by going to Edit, Undo.
Another preset I like for this photo is Yesteryear.
I'll increase shadow brightness on this one as well.
Now at any time in this Lightroom session or in the future, we can undo all of our work and go in a different direction by just clicking here on the Reset button.
This allows you to experiment with the built-in presets and with all of the editing tools in all of these panels and in the tool drawer without fear of ruining your photo.
So enjoy editing your photos fearlessly with Lightroom.
