Hi everyone, I'm Lisa Carney, a professional Hollywood retoucher with years of experience working on everything from movie posters to high-end campaigns.
One of the most common challenges I face is transforming vertical images into horizontal ones.
And while I used to rely solely on my desktop computer, now I can achieve incredible results right here on my phone thanks to two amazing Adobe applications, Lightroom on mobile, and Photoshop on mobile.
Let's dive in!
First, open your image in Lightroom on mobile.
I've chosen this photo featuring a boat at Water's Edge in Cape Verde.
It's a great shot but needs a little work to really shine.
Let's start with Quick actions.
I'll tap the Edit icon and then tap the Magic Wand to display the Quick actions for this photo.
And then I'll tap Scene so I can modify the different parts of the scene.
I'll adjust the slider for Water to modify the look of the ocean.
Lightroom mobile makes these adjustments so intuitive and fast, it's like having a magic wand for editing.
I'll tap the Checkmark in the lower right to apply this change.
Now for the fun part, let's get rid of that distracting tire.
I'll tap the Eraser icon to open the Remove Tool.
Then I'll tap this blue Tool icon and select Remove.
Then I'll paint over the object.
When you do this, make sure you brush over any shadows that the object might have.
Lightroom AI takes care of the rest.
And the best part?
You get three options to choose from.
Tap Refine and then tap on the arrows to see the different versions and choose the one that works best for your image.
With just a few swipes, the tire is gone, and the photo already looks so much cleaner.
I'll tap the Checkmark in the lower right to apply this change.
With the image cleaned up, it's time to take it to the next level.
In this case, I'd like to expand the canvas for horizontal presentation and add a dramatic sky.
Lightroom on mobile makes this super easy by letting you export directly to Photoshop on mobile.
Tap the Export icon in the upper right-hand corner and then tap Photoshop.
The image opens right up in Photoshop on mobile, ready for more advanced retouching.
This seamless integration between Lightroom and Photoshop is what makes these apps so powerful.
You can start editing in one and then finish your work in the other without ever leaving your phone.
It's a game changer for anyone working on the go.
Now my image has been opened in Photoshop on mobile.
First, swipe left on the Tools under the image to show the Size option at the far right.
I'll drag on the left and right sides of the bounding box to expand the canvas to create a horizontal image.
I'll tap the Checkmark in the lower right to apply this change.
Now, leave the Prompt area blank and tap Generate.
Photoshop's AI will automatically fill in the blank areas of the scene.
This is one of my favorite features.
It's like having an assistant who knows exactly what you need.
Tap on one of the three images generated to pick the one that's right for your scene, or tap on More to get another round of three image generations.
I'll tap the Checkmark in the lower right to apply this change.
Now it's time to create that dramatic sky.
Once the canvas is filled, choose Select Area, and then choose, tap Select, and pick the Sky icon.
Tap on the Checkmark to isolate the sky for editing.
After the sky is selected, tap Fill area.
Then choose Generative fill.
For the prompt, I'll type in "Stormy Clouds."
Photoshop will generate three options for me to choose from.
If I'm not happy with the first set, I can tap More to generate another round of three options.
It's as easy as that.
I'll pick the one that best fits the mood I'm going for in this scene.
Tap the Checkmark when you're happy with your selection.
Once I'm happy, it's time to export.
So, as you can see, I can tap Back to Lightroom to send the image back to Lightroom for further editing.
Or I can tap the three dots in the upper right to share.
I can quickly export a PNG to my camera roll, or I can tap Export, choose the file format, and then choose the location for the exported file.
This illustrates another powerful component of Photoshop on mobile.
You can choose where to deliver your images, and if you tap the X in the upper left corner, you can discard the edits or save to your cloud.
If you close out a Photoshop file on mobile, your image will automatically be saved to your Creative Cloud.
And there you have it, a polished image created entirely on your phone using Lightroom on mobile and Photoshop on mobile.
These apps are a dream team for anyone who wants to edit on the go, whether you're a professional like me or just someone who loves photography.
Thanks for watching and happy editing.
