Adobe Type Manager Light

Free font utility for viewing and printing PostScript fonts

Adobe® Type Manager® (ATM) Light is a system software component that automatically generates high-quality screen font bitmaps from the PostScript® outlines in Type 1 or OpenType® format. With ATM, you can scale your fonts without the characters appearing jagged, and you can also enable "font smoothing," which further improves the appearance of your fonts onscreen by using your computer monitor's color palette to intelligently improve the rendering of characters. ATM Light also allows you to print PostScript fonts on non PostScript printers, and can be used to create custom instances of multiple master fonts.

Current versions: 4.6 (Macintosh); 4.1 (Windows® 95, 98, and NT 4.0)

Macintosh

PostScript font support is built directly into Mac OS X; however, ATM Light is required for all other versions of Mac OS, including Mac OS X Classic.

The Macintosh version of ATM Light no longer supports Apple's GXGraphics extension. If you are using an application that relies on this system extension, we recommend that you do not update to this version of ATM Light.

ATM Light does not support the Apple Language Kits.

Windows

PostScript font support is built directly into Windows 2000/XP, and ATM Light is not required for basic font installation and rendering on these platforms. However, you must install ATM Light on Windows 2000 or XP if you use Adobe's multiple master typefaces and want to create custom font instances. ATM Light is required for previous versions of Windows, including Windows 95, 98, and NT 4.0.
