Up to this point, you've probably rotated - and scaled things like using simpler transformations.
Well, let's take that knowledge further.
It'll help you work faster.
You'll assemble this rocket - and explore transformations like flipping, shearing and rotating to bring it to life.
We'll start with this flame shape - you see here, I'll zoom in a little.
It's only half drawn and it needs to be copied - and then flipped to create that second half.
Select this flame shape - with the Selection Tool to start.
To make a copy, choose Edit, Copy, and then, to put a copy - right on top of it, choose Edit, Paste in Place.
To flip the copy - over in the Properties panel, you're going to see this little box - made of points.
The points in this box correspond to the points - on the bounding box of the shape.
That means the flame shape will flip across the center - of the shape right now because this little point is selected.
Select the bottom center point - of this little box that will tell Illustrator to flip across - the same point on the artwork.
Then to flip it, - click the Flip Vertically button here.
Now you rotate both of these shapes and add them to the rocket.
To select them, just drag across them.
To rotate them just move the pointer off - any corner on the box, and when rotate arrows appear, - just drag to rotate it.
As you're dragging it, press the Shift Key - to rotate it in 45-degree increments.
When it looks like this, release the mouse button and then the key.
With those finished, - you can now drag those flame shapes to the bottom of the rocket here.
Unfortunately, they're on top - and they need to be behind the orange flame.
To do that, choose Object, Arrange, Send to Back.
With that done, this group of rocket shapes - is now only half drawn, and it needs to be copied and reflected - to create a whole rocket.
You could use the same method, - you can go practice and try that.
But let's use one that's faster.
Select the rocket group.
To copy and flip it in one step we're going to use the Mirror command.
So choose Object, Repeat, Mirror.
That's it.
Illustrator copies and flips - the original art to make the other half.
If you wanted to move it, - maybe make space between them, you could do so with this handle.
Press the Escape key - to exit this Isolation mode you entered and then you can edit the other content.
Now you'll turn this circle here - into a series of windows on the rocket.
You'll drag it onto the rocket, - you make a few evenly spaced copies.
So go ahead and drag a little circle - onto the rocket right about here and I'll zoom in a little bit.
Now you'll make a copy by dragging.
Press Option or Alt and drag the circle to the right.
When it's about in the middle of the rocket, - release the mouse button and then the key to make a copy.
To make a third copy, - we don't have to do that again.
You can have Illustrator repeat - what you just did, using the Transform Again command.
So choose Object, Transform, Transform Again, The final step is - to take these lighter blue rectangles and make them look - like a reflection in this window.
Kind of like this.
You're going to work with the Shear Tool, and you're going to apply something called - a Shear Transformation to the shapes.
So select these shapes.
And to select the Shear Tool, - press and hold on the Rotate Tool and select it.
Now the idea here is to drag in this case - horizontally across the shape to shear it.
So move the pointer over here - and drag to the right.
Now you can drag and reshape it - in a lot of different ways but to keep it the same height, press the Shift key as you drag.
When it looks something like this, release the mouse button - and then the Key.
Let's get this on the rocket.
With the Selection Tool, drag across the window shapes - to select them.
Then drag them - into the center of the rocket here.
So you can see everything, choose View, Fit All in Window.
To group the rocket pieces together, so maybe you can move it - as a single object, select all the rocket artwork - by dragging across it, then group it by clicking the Group button - over here in the Properties panel.
There really are a lot of ways - to transform artwork in Illustrator and the more ways of these that you learn the easier and faster it'll be - for you to be creative.
Get some practice - by trying to finish this old television set.
It's off to the right in the asset.
Zoom into it and try doing things - like rotating the antenna duplicating and repeating - these lines and buttons and copying and flipping a leg. -
