Have you ever seen a pattern in artwork and thought, how do I make that?
With Generative AI in Illustrator, you can type in a simple phrase and make an amazing pattern in no time.
This is made possible with the Text to Vector Graphic feature.
Overview of text to vector graphic for patterns
It's the first incarnation of a revolutionary generative AI feature powered by Adobe Firefly.
Here's how it works.
Generating patterns with text prompts
You can select the artwork you want to apply a pattern to, or create the pattern first, and then apply it.
I want to add a pattern to this Summer Camp flyer to add some interest.
Like this.
With the shape selected, in the Taskbar below it, click Generate to get started.
You can then choose to make a pattern from the options over here.
Now it's time to enter a prompt.
This is something that spells out exactly what you want your pattern to be.
I'll try typing in, bright summer camp stickers and click Generate.
Some variations are made that you can apply to see which is best.
Now, if you want to keep exploring,
Exploring and regenerating pattern variations
refine your text prompt or just click Generate to make even more variations.
If you look in the Properties panel, you can see all the variations it's made.
Want to know the best part about making a pattern this way?
It's fast and super inspiring and each pattern is editable artwork and saved as a swatch now.
Editing and managing generated pattern swatches
If you open the Swatches panel by clicking Fill in the Properties panel, you can see the pattern here.
Suppose you want to edit that pattern.
You can double-click the Swatch and make a few changes to the pattern in Pattern Editing mode.
After you make your final touches, you can click Done.
This is just the beginning of a journey to deliver revolutionary vector graphic creation and empower your creative workflows.
Creating all kinds of patterns can open a lot more creative possibilities for your projects.
Why don't you dig in and see what you can make?

We will better understand your likely interests so we can provide you more relevant Adobe ads and content on non-Adobe websites and in non-Adobe apps
It will help us improve the performance of our website and those of our partners who use the Adobe Experience Cloud
If disabled:
We won’t be able to remember you from session to session so the experience may not be tailored to your interests
You’ll still have access to the content of the site but certain features that depend on cookies may not function
You’ll still see ads, they just may not be as relevant to you
