If you've made patterns using the Text to Vector Graphic feature, currently in beta, I want to share some tips with you to take your patterns from this to this.
Writing prompts for generating content might be newer for some of us, and it can be a learning curve.
So, here's something I would suggest you try.
Open the Text to Vector Graphic panel under the Window menu.
You can also see it over here on the right.
Check out the sample prompts that come with.
If you move the cursor over the thumbnails, you'll see the prompt that was typed to get that artwork.
Even this little tip helped me to think about prompts a little differently in Illustrator.
In other words, just being more descriptive when it came to content, color, and mood.
I showed this method in the Pattern Intro tutorial in this series, but it's worth repeating.
If you want to change anything about your pattern and make it permanent, I would edit the pattern at the source.
Each pattern you make and apply is saved as a swatch.
To edit a pattern, select the shape that it's applied to or open the Swatches panel separately.
Click the Fill in the Properties panel and find the Swatch.
To edit it, double-click on it and it opens in Pattern Editing mode.
Now you might not see it right away, so you might need to zoom a little.
You can make any changes you want to the original artwork, and you can see the original artwork within this, what's called Tile.
Maybe I'll make a background color change, something simple.
You can even refine the pattern using the Pattern Options panel that opens, maybe adjusting the spacing.
When you're all finished, click Done up here and your pattern is permanently changed.
If you've already created a pattern, you might be thinking, I might need to change this pattern up a little bit, maybe resize it, it's not quite working.
For example, in this pattern, I want the icons to be larger like you see on the right.
One caveat to this method is if you update the original pattern artwork, you'll need to reapply this size change.
Select some artwork that has a pattern fill applied, then scale the pattern by choosing Object, Transform, Scale...
In the dialog box it opens - I'll move this out of the way - you can change the Horizontal and Vertical Scale.
To me the magic part here is we don't want the shape to scale, just the pattern inside.
So, deselect Transform Objects and select Transform Patterns.
You can then fine-tune the size of the scale and click OK.
Keep exploring and refining your patterns with Text to Vector Graphic.
There's really no limit to how creative you can get.
