If you're anything like me, you've probably got way too many fonts on your computer: system fonts, Adobe Fonts, client fonts, even those random ones you bought at 2 a.m. because you thought they looked cool.
Finding the right one can be a total scroll-fest.
I'm Dave Clayton, a UK designer, and in this quick video, I'll show you how you can find the right font fast and seriously speed up your creative workflow.
Here I've got a Halloween poster from Adobe Stock.
It comes with a couple of Adobe fonts that syncs automatically when I downloaded it.
But let's say I want to test a few different looks without scrolling through hundreds of typefaces.
And this is where the new Font Libraries comes in.
Before we dive into Libraries, let's check out the sortable options we already have.
Review built-in font filters
You can filter between Favorites, Recently added, Locally installed fonts, Current document fonts, or your existing Adobe Fonts.
You can even narrow things down by Type: Serif, Sans Serif, Script, Decorative, whatever you need.
It's a great way to manage your fonts before organizing them into libraries.
And of course, you can do all this from the Control Bar, the Properties panel or the Contextual Task Bar, whichever you prefer.
It all depends on how you like to work.
Now the exciting part - the new Libraries section.
From here, you can view existing Font Libraries you've made in Creative Cloud Libraries or Adobe Express or create a brand-new one right here in Illustrator.
Let's make a new one called Horror Fonts Poster.
Click the + New Library button, name it, and hit OK.
And that's how quick it is.
Add typefaces to a font library
To add any font, just find one you like from your current list, click the Add to Library icon on the right-hand side and choose where it goes.
You can obviously search for more Adobe Fonts or install more independently sourced fonts you have available to choose from.
Manage and sync libraries across devices
Need to rename the library?
Easy.
Just click the Rename icon, update the name, and it syncs instantly across your Creative Cloud.
You can even sort your libraries.
You can now build collections for clients, themes, projects, and more.
Whatever fits your workflow.
And that's it.
Clean, organized, and so much faster than scrolling through every font we've ever installed.
Font Libraries might be a small feature, but it makes a huge difference when you're juggling multiple projects.
And now we've got no excuse not to organize our fonts.
