Adobe actively supports Acrobat X and Acrobat 9. Per the Adobe Enterprise Support Lifecycle Policy, support for Acrobat 8 and Reader 8 ended on November 3, 2011.

Registered owners of the current version of Adobe Acrobat are eligible to receive person-to-person support on issues related to installation and products. There is no ongoing charge for this service; you pay only the cost of the call.

Adobe plays a unique role in the marketplace, at all times trying to strike the right balance between market leadership and partner ecosystem development. Successful adoption of two technologies in Acrobat Pro Extended — 3D PDF and geospatial PDF — has driven market demand for more robust and highly specialized solutions. After a detailed analysis, Adobe concluded that these market areas have achieved a level of maturity that will be better served by partners who are dedicated to these specific areas. In preparing to launch Acrobat X, Adobe worked closely with industry-leading partners to migrate select Adobe technologies and facilitate a smooth transition for our customers. This included forming a strategic partnership with Tech Soft 3D for the ongoing development and delivery of 3D translation technology. These technologies will be made available to Acrobat customers under the brand name Tetra 4D. For geospatial PDF, Adobe is working with TerraGo Technologies, an Adobe Gold Partner.

Since 3D PDF translation and geospatial registration were core capabilities in Acrobat Pro Extended, Adobe made the decision to follow industry best practices and discontinue this specific product configuration.

Yes. Like Acrobat X, Adobe Reader X will continue to support 3D PDF files by enabling viewing and interaction with 3D data in the PRC and U3D formats. Similarly, Reader X will continue to support measurement, analysis, and commenting functions for geospatial PDF files.

Your answer depends upon which premium features were most important to you when you purchased Acrobat 9 Pro Extended. There were four capability sets that differentiated Acrobat Pro Extended from Acrobat Pro. Replacement recommendations for each are as follows:

• Adding narration and interactivity to Microsoft PowerPoint slides: Acrobat X Suite, including Adobe Presenter 7
• Converting video for viewing in Adobe Reader: Acrobat X Suite, including Adobe Media Encoder CS5
• 3D PDF conversion and review: Acrobat X Pro or Acrobat X Suite, plus 3D PDF Converter from Tetra 4D
• Geospatial registration: Acrobat X Pro or Acrobat X Suite, plus solutions from TerraGo or ESRI

Because of its end-of-life status, there is no upgrade to Acrobat Pro Extended. However, for For customers who have a valid license for Acrobat 9 Pro Extended and currently have an upgrade plan (Upgrade Plan, Gold Maintenance and Support, or Platinum Maintenance and Support) as of October 18, 2010, Adobe will provide you with a replacement product product upgrade from the Acrobat X Family in accordance with the terms and conditions of your Upgrade Plan.

If you have a valid Upgrade Plan, Adobe will replace Acrobat 9 Pro Extended with Acrobat X Suite as a one-for-one exchange. If you wish to purchase additional licenses of Acrobat X Suite or Acrobat X Pro, you will need to purchase licenses at the standard pricing.

Yes, but only after your current plan expires. After that period, if you would like to receive maintenance for the replacement product, you will need to purchase a new Upgrade Plan that applies to the product you want to protect.  If you received Acrobat X Suite as a replacement product through the Upgrade Plan, you will be given the option to purchase a new plan for either Acrobat X Suite or Acrobat X Pro. You will also qualify for discounted pricing for the Acrobat X Suite Upgrade Plan.

If you have a Platinum Maintenance and Support Plan or other maintenance plan for Acrobat Pro Extended, contact your Adobe account manager.

Adobe will continue to provide customer support for Acrobat 9 Pro Extended until June 26, 2013. This will include any necessary bug fixes to maintain the current functionality of the products. Per the Adobe Support Lifecycle Policy, Adobe has ended support for Acrobat 3D version 8. Customers who wish to expand their functionality to support the creation of 3D PDF files from the newest versions of their CAD software programs are strongly encouraged to upgrade to Acrobat XI and contact Tetra 4D to learn more about 3D PDF Converter.

Developers who currently use the Acrobat software development kit (SDK) and have built plug-ins based on Acrobat 9 Pro Extended will not be affected. The current Acrobat SDK and supporting documentation will continue to be available on the Adobe Acrobat 3D Developer Center. Adobe remains committed to supporting the development of published ISO standards for engineering workflows and 3D technologies. Adobe representatives will continue to participate actively in working groups including PDF/E (PDF for Engineering), PRC (Product Representation Compact), and U3D (Universal 3D). The Adobe Product Improvement Program was introduced with Acrobat 9 and continues in Acrobat X. This program invites users of Acrobat X and Adobe Reader X to participate in helping Adobe design future products by providing anonymous information on how they use certain features and functions within the application. Initially, you are prompted by an automatic dialog box with the option to opt in (the default is opt out), as well as a link to a web page where you can learn more about the program. If you agree to participate in the program, the data collection process is invisible to you and does not affect your experience or your computer's run time. After you close out of Acrobat X or Adobe Reader X, anonymous data, such as operating system, browser type, menu options, and buttons selected, is sent to Adobe. By analyzing usage trends among large groups of unidentified users, Adobe will be able to offer future products that are better able to meet your needs.

Yes, Adobe joins many companies such as Microsoft and Intuit that already use customer feedback programs to enhance their products.

The program takes only those actions described on this page, and only provided you give your permission. Yes, we have made it simple for users to stop participating. Simply go to the Help menu in Acrobat X or Reader X and select "Improvement Program Options." When the dialog box appears, you can choose not to participate.
