Release Date: July 11, 2006
Vulnerability Identifier: APSB06-08
CVE Number: CVE-2006-3452
Platform: Macintosh
The file and folder permissions for Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat can permit non-privileged users to change key program files on Mac OSX. This condition presents a risk for shared, multi-user systems. Adobe Reader and Acrobat update 6.0.5 resolves this condition. Adobe recommends that customers using Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat apply these updates.
If you are using Reader or Acrobat 6.0 - 6.0.4 and are unable to upgrade to version 7.0.8, due to Operating System constraints for example, then Adobe recommends that you upgrade to 6.0.5 either via a series of patches from www.adobe.com/support/downloads or using the auto-update mechanism within the product when prompted.
If you are using a version of Reader or Acrobat older than 7.0.8 and are able to upgrade, Adobe recommends that you upgrade to 7.0.8 by installing the full version of Reader 7.0.8 from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html.
Adobe Reader 6.0.4 and earlier
Adobe Acrobat 6.0.4 and earlier
Adobe categorizes this as an important update and recommends affected users update to version 6.0.5.
The identified vulnerability allows non-privileged users permission to change key program files. This condition presents a particular risk for shared, multi-user systems. On such systems, a hostile unprivileged user could take advantage of this condition to replace these program files with malicious or harmful code that could read, write, or destroy sensitive data if subsequently run by a privileged user.
This issue was discovered by Adobe secure software engineering practices.
