Release date: September 12, 2006

Vulnerability identifier: APSB06-12

CVE number: CVE-2006-4724

Platform: All Platforms

Summary

A specially crafted command sent to the ColdFusion Flash Remoting Gateway can cause an infinite loop in ColdFusion, resulting in a denial of service attack.

Solution

Adobe recommends ColdFusion users upgrade to ColdFusion MX 7.0.2 or apply the following update. Installation instructions follow.

NOTE: Back up your existing files before making changes. As always, test the changes in a non-production environment before applying the changes to production servers.

To install:

  1. Update to ColdFusion MX 7.0.1, if currently running ColdFusionMX 7.0.

  2. Download and unzip the hot fix. (3K)

  3. Open the ColdFusion MX Administrator and select the System Information page. Next to the Update File field, either:
    a. Type in the file path and click Submit.
          OR
    b. Click the Browse button, browse to the downloaded file, select the file and then Apply.
  4. Restart ColdFusion MX.

The ColdFusion MX 7 hot fix JAR file does not need to be retained after installing it with the ColdFusion Administrator. The file has been copied into the correct location.

The ColdFusion MX 7 hot fix JAR file will appear as a new entry in the System Information list.

WORKAROUND: If you are not using Flash Remoting you can disable the Flash Remoting Gateway by commenting out the Flash Gateway servlet.
