HistoryDesigned by Georg Trump between 1951 and 1955 and released by the Weber type foundry in Germany, Delphin I is a beautiful roman typeface with strong calligraphic leanings. Trump was primarily a teacher of lettering and typography, inspired by the well-respected German type designer and teacher F. H. Schneidler. All of Trump's calligraphic typefaces are notable for their beauty and elegance. The lowercase letters of Delphin I are slightly inclined, with ascenders that are much taller than the capitals. The h, k, p, and y make Delphin I easy to identify, along with the capitals K and R, which have tails that taper to a point. It is a fine typeface for advertising display work and commonly appears in film titles. Delphin II is a companion typeface to Delphin I, which is lighter in weight. Delphin II is unusual in that very little of the verve and definition of the lighter weight is lost in the translation to semibold, a tribute to Trump's genius as a type designer. Delphin II is a display face that can be used successfully in books, newsletters, magazines, and advertising.
Menu Names And Style Linking
In many Windows® applications, instead of every font appearing on the menu, fonts are grouped into style-linked sets, and only the name of the base style font for a set is shown in the menu. The italic and the bold weight fonts of the set are not shown, and but can still be accessed by selecting the base style font, and then using the italic and bold style buttons. In this family, such programs will show only the following base style font names in the menu:Delphin LT Std 1
The other fonts in this family must be selected by choosing a menu name and then a style option following the guide below.
|Menu Name||plus Style Option...||selects this font|
|Delphin LT Std 1||[none]||Delphin LT Std 1|
|Delphin LT Std 1||Bold||Delphin LT Std 2|
On the Mac OS operating system, although each font appears as a separate entry on the font menu, users may also select fonts by means of style links. Selecting a base style font and then using the style links (as described above for Windows applications) enhances cross-platform document compatibility with many applications, such as Microsoft Word and Adobe® PageMaker® software, although it is unnecessary with more sophisticated Adobe applications such as recent versions of Illustrator®, Photoshop® or InDesign® software.
One should not, however, select a weight which has no style-linked variant or is itself a style-linked variant, and then additionally use the bold or italic styling button. Doing so will either have no effect, or result in programmatic bolding or slanting of the base font, which will usually produce inferior screen and print results.
