Designing for individuality with Love, Bonito

Founded by Rachel Lim, and sisters Viola and Velda Tan, this fit-to-form fashion powerhouse was a blogshop pioneer in 2005. To sew themselves a new piece of the market, they began custom-designing garments that celebrate the physique of Asian women, using materials tailored to the Singaporean heat.


Expanding into Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia in 2015-2016, the label rebranded from Bonito Chico, to Love, Bonito. After their flagship Singapore store opened in 2017, regional pop-ups followed. Realising how crucial a bricks-and-mortar presence is in their customer journey, the business created engaging spaces, where women gather to learn to style and dress for their shape.

 

Fashion for every woman

Continually adapting to what women want, the brand empowers their followers by designing for real women doing real things. No fitting on mannequins, or models; Love, Bonito makes for every size, shape and style.

Tailoring with technology

Having highly-specialised team members across the entire production journey, Love, Bonito continually uses technology to bridge the gaps. Not technically trained in design and drawing, Lee needs a way to turn her ideas into realised custom pieces. By communicating them to the design team, they collaborate to realise clothing from concepts.


‘The design team would then take my idea; draw it out, sketch it out, and we also use a lot of Photoshop and Illustrator to help us with the perfecting of those ideas and designs,’ says April Lee.


Together with a team of 10 creatives, April works across multiple mediums every day; from photography and styling to graphic design and visual merchandising. With all these different skills in play, the business relies on agile, creative tools to ensure uniformity and uphold the brand’s integrity.


‘Adobe Creative Cloud for teams helps us to maintain brand consistency in our team, and across the markets we operate in. It’s so easy to drag and drop assets like logos, fonts and templates onto what we’re working on,’ Lee says.


Visual representation of Love, Bonito pieces is everything, and Adobe Creative Cloud for teams is there from the time they take the photos, to when they retouch them.


‘We rely heavily on Photoshop for graphic design, web and display banners, store posters and signages, as well as to retouch our catalogue photos,’ April Lee says.
