The vibiest cities in the UK: 2025 edition
What creates a city's vibe? Is it the scent of fresh coffee or the energy of a bustling farmers market? For this year's ranking of the UK's vibiest cities, Adobe Express set out to uncover the everyday moments that shape the UK’s most vibrant cities.
We analysed Instagram data and Yelp venue data from 34 UK cities with populations over 150,000 to find out where food, fashion, and the arts are buzzing most. Each city earned a score based on the number of Instagram posts, cafes, restaurants, galleries, shops, and other creative spots relative to its population, revealing where community and culture feel most alive.

Overview
What makes a city vibey?
We ranked cities across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales using data in four key lifestyle categories:
- Aesthetic appeal: The number of Instagram posts for each location
- Arts and culture: Galleries, music venues, farmers markets, bookstores
- Food and drink: Cafes, coffee shops, restaurants
- Shopping and style: Vintage shops, shopping centres, pop-up shops
Manchester, England, claimed the top spot for vibes, outscoring all other cities in the overall ranking. Its aesthetics, as well as its cafe and restaurant scene, helped it earn the highest marks. Reading came in second, primarily for its shopping and style vibes. The town boasts a thriving retail scene and a mix of high-street and independent boutiques, making it a hotspot for fashion-forward visitors.
Category leaders in food, fashion, and culture
To see what gives each city its unique energy, we broke down the top and bottom performers by individual venue type.
Manchester led the pack as the UK’s most Instagrammed city, with nearly 13 million posts capturing its vibrant streets and cityscapes. London came in second for Instagrammability; there were 9.7 million Instagram posts featuring this city, which is known for its iconic landmarks like Big Ben and Tower Bridge, vibrant neighborhoods such as Camden and Notting Hill, and picturesque views along the River Thames. Edinburgh followed with 7.8 million posts, reflecting its strong visual appeal.
Manchester also stood out for its food and drink scene, boasting the highest number of cafes, coffee shops, and restaurants per 100,000 residents, making it a hotspot for both foodies and social media aficionados. In the shopping and style category, Reading and Southampton topped the list for vintage shops per capita, reinforcing their reputation for supporting unique and independent retail.

Methodology
Adobe Express used the number of Instagram posts and Yelp data per 100,000 residents to rank the "vibiest" cities in the UK, places where culture, creativity, and community energy come together. The ranking included 34 cities and was based on these four main categories:
- Aesthetic Score: The number of Instagram posts (40%)
- Arts and culture: Galleries, music venues, farmers markets, bookstores (20%)
- Shopping and style: Vintage shops, shopping centres, pop-up shops (20%)
- Food: Cafés, coffee shops, restaurants (20%)
Only cities with 150,000 or more residents were included.
Limitations:
- Platform coverage bias: All data was sourced from Instagram and Yelp, which have uneven regional usage across the UK. Cities with higher engagement may appear more vibrant due to better platform representation, while smaller or less digitally active towns may be underrepresented. Only establishments listed on Yelp were accounted for, not necessarily all.
- Per capita skew in smaller cities: Normalising by population helps ensure fairness across city sizes, but it can amplify rankings for smaller towns with a few standout venues, even if their overall scene is limited in scope.
- Exclusions not exhaustively listed: Some cities or regions may have been excluded due to insufficient Yelp data or population thresholds. As such, this ranking only reflects the cities included in the dataset and should not be interpreted as a definitive list of all UK destinations.
- Data may change: The number of posts on Instagram and the number of establishments listed on Yelp are subject to change from the time this study was conducted.
