Quick design tips to make designs for your brother’s birthday look better.
A good message is the heart of your birthday , but design is what makes it feel finished. Whether you’re making a funny card, a photo post, or a more sentimental birthday graphic, these tips help it look intentional.
1. Use strong contrast.
Make the text easy to read at a glance. Light text on dark backgrounds (white on navy, cream on charcoal) looks clean and bold. Bright colors on lighter backgrounds can work too, but just make sure the text doesn’t disappear.
2. Create a clear text hierarchy.
Don’t make every line the same size. Highlight one phrase (“Happy birthday, bro” or “another year more awesome”) and keep the rest smaller. This makes the design easier to scan and way more visually appealing.
3. Use fonts with a purpose.
One bold or display font and one clean font is usually enough. If you use a playful font, keep the rest simple so it stays readable. Too many fancy fonts can make a short birthday message look harder to read than it needs to be.
4. Add small details, not clutter.
Icons, confetti, stars, or graphic accents can make the design feel fun, but use them lightly. It’s best if you use accents that really highlight your brother’s personality. If the message or photo is getting buried, scale it back.
5. Write the message first, then design it.
Once your wording feels right, it’s much easier to choose the right template, photos, and colors. Don’t build the design first and force the message into it.
