Open the Adobe Express app and upload an image from your device or choose one from our stock photo galleries.
2. Blur background.
Duplicate your image in your project. Cut out the subject from the top photo using the Remove Background tool. Click on the bottom photo and use the Blur effect to blur the background.
3. Continue editing.
Instantly download your new image with a blurred background to share with your friends, family, and followers, or keep editing.
Make your subject stand out.
Upload your image and crop it to fit your canvas however you’d like. Then, select your photo, duplicate it, and use the Remove background feature to cut out only the subjects of your photo. Select the image behind it and use the Blur effect to blur the background. Adjust the cropped image to make sure it sits perfectly aligned on top of the blurred image – and just like magic, you have a blurred background effect.
Customize your blurred background.
Adjust the amount of blur in your background to suit your photo. More blur gives your image an extra abstract, bokeh look. Use less to create a more natural, soft, and hazy feel.
Personalize to perfection.
Continue to edit your photo by adding filters or color overlays. Add a border or frame to emphasize the subject of your design further. Add animation to your image or text to captivate your digital audiences. Spend as little or as much time as you’d like making your design your own.
Tons of free templates, video, and audio assets to start from.
Turn your newly edited image into a stunning flyer, social post, album cover, profile photo, and unlimited other designs. Explore our template library to get started. Then, add other pre-loaded design assets, fonts, icons, or GIFs to personalize your image. There are endless creative opportunities to elevate your designs.
How many blurring effects can I choose for the background?
For now, Adobe Express features only one type of blurring effect. However, you can customize the level of blurring you want to apply to your image using the sliding scale.
Can I blur the photo background on my phone?
Absolutely. Download and launch the free Adobe Express app on your mobile device and instantly blur the background of your images so you can make standout content wherever you go.
Can I remove the photo background with Adobe Express?
Quickly and easily remove the background of a photo using Adobe Express. You can do so using the Remove Background quick edit tool, or open your image in the full Adobe Express editor and remove the background of an image in addition to apply any other necessary edits.
Does the size or quality change after blurring the photo background?
The size and quality should remain the same, unless you resize your image while editing it, or choose a canvas size that is larger or smaller than your original image. If you wish to maintain the same size of your image from the start, select the option to start from your photo.

Cookies are small text files stored by your web browser when you use websites. There are also other technologies that can be used for similar purposes like HTML5 Local Storage and local shared objects, web beacons, and embedded scripts. These technologies help us do things like remembering you and your preferences when you return to our sites, measure how you use the website, conduct market research, and gather information about the ads you see and interact with.
You can make choices in the menu below about what cookies and other technologies you want us to use on Adobe sites when you visit them from this browser. You can always change those choices later by clicking on the Cookie Preferences link at the bottom of the page.
If enabled:
We can improve your experience by tailoring the site and the content to things we think might be of interest
We can better keep track of your preferences — like what language you prefer to use
We will better understand your likely interests so we can provide you more relevant Adobe ads and content on non-Adobe websites and in non-Adobe apps
It will help us improve the performance of our website and those of our partners who use the Adobe Experience Cloud
If disabled:
We won’t be able to remember you from session to session so the experience may not be tailored to your interests
You’ll still have access to the content of the site but certain features that depend on cookies may not function
You’ll still see ads, they just may not be as relevant to you
